NaNoWriMo Character Takeover

hellsgate wattpad cover

Hello everyone! I’m Anaya Jean, main character in “Hellsgate” and I’m taking over the blog today. Normally, my creator/writer like to hosts her character interviews, but I’ve never been one to sit still and answer questions. Especially when I’ve been waiting for a year to tell my story. But I don’t blame her. She’s had romance on the brain. Then she went into a writing slump. And after she got out of it, she still had a romance on the brain.

Yeah…you know what. I do kind of blame her. She’s taking her sweet time in getting to me and my merry band of human and supernatural band of men and women. After all, us ladies help make our world go around. Our thieving world. Because like the tagline says “A thief’s life is never easy.”

In case you’re wondering, this is how I look like. And to my right is my partner in crime and long time friend Sift. He’s an elf. Say hi Sift.

“Hi,” said Sift in a long sigh as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

He didn’t want to be here. But I had to cajole him with a promise not to give any more monologues before our next heist. Here’s the rest of my friendly gang.

From left to right, top to bottom, is weapons and security extraordinaire, Sun. Though she has metal prostetchics arm and leg she’s one bad-

Hey hold on now Anaya. You might be a character of my imagination but there’s no cursing on my blog.

I was just going to say elf.

Sun shook her head and chuckled. “This what you get for letting Anaya take over. Still as long as I get to have some fun.”

Next to her is the lovely fairy Lorelai. Her specialty is reconnaissance, gathering intel, and flight. But the really cool thing she can do is shrinking down to the size of a thimble and her clothes shrink with her.

“It’s cool to you. But I still haven’t figured out to magically remove stains from my clothing. You know how expensive detergent and stain removers are?”

“Course. That’s why we steal them.”

The girl with the goggles on her head and many piercings is quite handy with explosions. Her name is Lilly and like me she’s human.

The guy with the blunt sword is John. And between you and me someone dropped the ball with his name.

Hey! I’m working on it.

John is half human and dwarf. His specialty is close to quarters combat and is our swords expert. Say hi John.

“Hhhmm,” John grunted.

“What about me?”

“Who said that?”

“Me. The non-biological character you failed to mention and passed over just because I’m not made of flesh and blood.”

“Oh the gauntlet. There’s a talking gauntlet in this story?”

“Anaya, don’t talk to that thing,” said Sift.

“I’m more than just a gauntlet. I’m a witchblade.”

“In matter of fact I’m your witchblade. Been waiting for you since you passed through the gate but you were a baby then.”

“Wait a minute. That’s not…the time table’s not right. I’m 16 and the gate was opened more than half a century ago. Sift?”

“If you’re going to tell me to calm down, don’t you dare.”

“I wasn’t going to. Now will you let me talk and just listen?”

“It depends on what you have to say.”

Sun, Lorelai, Lilly and John watched them volley back and forth.

“Only thing missing is popcorn,” sighed Lilly.

“We’ll steal some corn kernels for you later,” Anaya said while her eyes never left Sift’s face. “Well?”

“Forget about Sift. Try me on already. You don’t like the way I look? I can change shape too. See?”

“Clean up good don’t I?”

“I couldn’t tell you. You weren’t ready to know.”

“Couldn’t tell me what? How am I not ready? Have you lost count to the number of heists and raids we’ve done together and gotten away with?”

“If I do remember” interrupted Sun, “we did have some near misses. They were fun though.”

Hands fisted at her side Anaya ignored Sun while Sift clenched his jaw, refusing to say more in front of an audience.

“Creator/writer what is he talking about? What am I not ready to know?”

Ahh…unfortunately, I haven’t gotten to that part of the story yet. Sorry.

“What? Then when will you?”

Ahh…maybe in two weeks or more?

“Was that a question? Tell me that wasn’t a question. You really don’t know?”

Hey don’t rush me. I’ve still have the rest of October to prep for NaNoWriMo to find out. Bye!

“Bye,” replied the witchblade, Sun, Lorelai, Lilly and John.

“Bye,” said Sift.

“Seriously? Really? A huge bomb was dropped on us people. On me. And no one’s curious to what is going on?”

By this time Anaya is talking to herself as everyone has left the blog.

“Well…this isn’t over. And you and me writer/creator, we will have words.”

    • Thanks Carrie. You should give it a try. It’s always a fun and learning experience when have a personal, face to face interview with my characters.

  1. Fun post, I’ll have to try a character takeover some time! I hope you manage to figure out what happens to them in time for NaNoWriMo 🙂

    • Thank you. I’m starting to grasp a stronger, clearer picture of my story and written backstories for all my characters. And whew, before they met my FMC Anaya, their lives were grim. But that’s the past. Have to start thinking about their present and future.

    • Thanks. Talking with my characters helps me get to know them on a deeper level. Which makes writing a story easier as they basically take over and write their story themselves.
