Happy 18th day of National Poetry Month!
Today’s featured poem, by Thomas Hardy, has been a favorite of mine since my college days. Although I also read his other works, I much prefer Mr. Hardy’s poetry over his fiction novels.
His poem, The Darkling Thrush, is gloomy without a doubt. But within that gloom, there is hope. There is light. There is joy. Even when you think it impossible to or when there is no reason for it to exist. There is hope. There is light. There is joy to be found within the growing gloom.
The thrush sang away the gloom.

Yes. It could’ve fallen under the gloom but it didn’t. Awe inspiring.

Gloomy is okay…especially if it has hope wrapped within it!

Yeah, because there’s always light at the end of a gloomy tunnel.

From personal experience, I know that when you’re feeling gloomy, small things in nature, like birds and such, tend to make a world of difference. Thanks for sharing, Lidy. 🙂
