How Writers Can Use Pinterest to Prep for NaNoWriMo

I know NaNoWriMo is less than 60 days away, 51 days to be exact. But that doesn’t mean you can’t begin prepping for it. And I can’t think of a better and fun way than to use Pinterest.

Pinterest might not be as social as other social media but therein lies the beauty. Less distraction from engaging with other people. It’s a stimulating platform filled with thousands of images to prompt creativity. A tool to search, scrapbook and collect visual notes to help plan for your novel.

Technology and the Writers of Tomorrow by Katie Kapro

Every summer in my small city, the streets of downtown are overrun by flocks of elementary school kids wielding notebooks and pencils. They wear neon yellow backpacks with “Summer Writing Camp” emblazoned on the front. The flocks, generally corralled by a teacher and TA, hole-up in coffee shops, museums, and public parks, dispersing amongst the patrons with eager observational stealth. They listen in on strangers’ conversations, taking notes on people’s speaking patterns, storytelling rhythms, and mannerisms. They eavesdrop, in other words.

All the kids in these flocks are aspiring writers. Somewhere along the line they fell in love with stories. Some will tell you it’s because they love to read, others because they love to imagine, others because they simply nerd out over the art of stringing words together. Twenty years ago, I was one of those kids; squarely in the reading camp.

Writing is Key

The above graphic is very busy isn’t it? Well that’s the life an authorpreneur has to bear. Back in the day, the only requirement an author had was to write. Their publishers and/or agents would’ve taken care of everything else; all the marketing, promotion and publishing. But the paradigm has shifted.

In today’s publishing, an author is responsible for the marketing and promotion of themselves and their book(s). Hence the importance of the book proposal, business plan and using social media.
