It’s the final day of National Poetry Month!

And for the final poem of the month, I’m sharing “Birds & Bees.”

After listening to Mallory M reciting his poem again, these lines just pierced my heart:

I wonder if Emmett Till got the talk

before he left for Mississippi.

Did his mother tell him that hanging

was the only way that black boys could jump

without their feet ever touching the ground?

Happy day 29 of National Poetry Month!

Today’s poem by Blythe Baird really strikes at the problem of rape culture in this country.

Happy Friday and day 28 of poetry month. Today’s final poem by this week’s poetess is “After Googling Affirmations for Abuse Survivors.”

I love how she ends the poems with these lines:

I am my own higher power

I will carry myself out

Hope you’ve enjoyed the poems by my four chosen poetess.’ And that you’ll enjoy this weekend’s individual poets.
