April 1 question – The IWSG’s focus is on our writers. Each month, from all over the globe, we are a united group sharing our insecurities, our troubles, and our pain. So, in this time when our world is in crisis with the covid-19 pandemic, our optional question this month is: how are things in your world?

How are things in my world? Well, for me, life as I know it kinda feels like I’m living in a world where Richmond Valentine from Kingsman had launched plan B of his ‘culling’ posthumously. But no, I’m living the quarantined life, working from home and home schooling the kids.

To all the parents out there going through the same thing, this prayer is for you.

With two boys in the house, they’re either fighting or playing around. They think because school closed they’re on vacation and have to tell them no they not. To keep them busy, they’re given math problems three grades above their current grade level. And have to write at least a one page report on the book they’ve read. Along with whatever the teacher gives them through their Zoom meeting. After they’re done with that and I’m done with work, we do a yoga session. And alternate with some Zumba. My goal is to get rid of any excess energy (which unfortunately they have plenty of).

In the meantime, I’m currently on a binge reading of a few of my favorite historical romances to read. And looking for the author’s name and title of one book I can’t remember. After searching Google using keywords, I posted details of the book on Goodreads. And shared it on Twitter. But so far I have received no response. So IWSGers, if you happen to know the author and title of the book, please, please, please let me know. It’s driving me crazy.

I haven’t heard any news whether the anthology my short story will feature in has been postponed. As far as I know the publication date of Temptation Press “The Matched Game: An Erotic Collection” remains April 21st.

In other short story news, my second short wasn’t selected for another anthology. I’m currently thinking of sending it and one more to another anthology collection. The deadlines are the end of next month. But for one the current word count will have to be cut down by 2k+ words. The other one, I’d put the rewriting on hold in January. Afterwards, it’s back to my urban fantasy “Hellsgate.”

How are things in your world? Has covid-19 interfered with your writing? How are you trying to keep from going stir crazy?

  1. I feel you with the extra energy. My youngest has been going outside to play each morning. He is still taking his TaeKwonDo classes via Zoom 3 times a week so that helps. I have my teen acting as “PE Teacher” with the middle son. That has helped there. I say often, I don’t homeschool my kids for a reason LOL but we are making it through their digital learning.

Sorry to hear your one story wasn’t accepted. Fingers crossed it finds a home. No help with the book. It’s not ringing any bells.

    • I just don’t know how they do it. I can understand about having all that energy with nowhere to go because school is closed and they’re home all day, every day. But they still had the energy after a school day too. Do they have some bottomless reservoir of energy or what. Sigh.

Thanks, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed too, as I go back to the re-writing board.

    • From the groans they make when it’s time to do a yoga and zumba session I believe I am. Too bad they get a second wind but by that time its bedtime and I finally get some peace and quiet.

      • I’ve learned a few things fighting depression. I absolutely refuse to engage with gossip, fear mongering, and stories off a freind-of-a-friend-of-mine and I’ve selected two reliable sources of information where the facts are paramount.

And keep doing what you’re doing with your kids. Children can be uplifting all by themselves. 🙂

  2. Hi,
Two boys will keep you busy. I don’t envy you or any parents that have been pushed into home schooling for this time.
On the other side, I am very happy to hear about your successes in the publishing world. keep it up, Lady.
All the best and stay safe.

  3. I feel fortunate in that my still-at-home child is older (almost 13) and a quiet, introverted sort. It’s helping us cope that we’re on the same wave-length in that regard.

(Unfortunately I don’t think I’ve read your mystery book–I hope you find out what it is!)

    • I don’t know how it happened but my kids are extroverts. At least they have each other but there’s too many times a day I want to separate the two of them.
Thanks for looking into my mystery book.
