So what’s going on with me this month?
I finished story #3, “On the Mat,” from the new series of romantic shorts I’m writing in the 85K90 challenge at 24,666 words. And started uploading it on Wattpad for feedback. Here’s the cover and quote art I created using Canva.com:
Now I’ve started writing story #1, “Love Lines,” Joseph and Layla’s story this past Monday. And I created a cover on Canva.com for it as well.
Which then led me to think about anthologies. How do you get your work into an anthology? Where do you find open calls for them?
I found one for an elemental theme poetry. Poets & Writers, Newpages.com and Aerogramme studio are my usual go to’s for submission calls. But would love to hear recommendations for others. Specifically fantasy and romance fiction. Even short stories. And accepts new writers.
Know of any anthology submissions I should look into, that’ll be a right fit for me?
February 7 question – What do you love about the genre you write in most often?
Can’t tell you which genre I love most writing in but I can tell you what I love about them regardless. Whether it’s poetry, romance or fantasy (and mystery/thriller in the future) I love its truthfulness. Funny isn’t it how you can find truth in a world of lies.

Thank you. I found the photos on Pixabay and uploaded onto Canva. I’m just glad Canva added Wattpad and Kindle book cover apps.

I’ve wondered the same thing about anthologies! I’ll have to remember to come back and check responses to see what if any suggestions you get on that.
Congrats on finishing up the stories and the covers look great. I love using Canva, it can be so addictive. I’m excited about the #KissPitch next week! I’ve been working on polishing up my pitches so I can participate.

There’s a romance/chick-lit/fantasy anthology (for A Midsummer Night’s Dream retellings) that’s open to submissions until end of next month. I took part in their first anthology last year, and I think it worked out great (Cinderella retellings).

The IWSG has an anthology contest every year. Check with Shannon Lawrence at The Warrior Muse. She submits to a lot of anthologies and posts calls for submissions every Wednesday.

Easy…. http://www.roanepublishing.com/Articles.asp?ID=252 Unfortunately they are closed for submission until March. Not only do I know them I trust them. Get something ready to submit and dive in. 🙂

I love getting into universal truths too with characters, psyche, what really matters in life, etc. You put it so well. =)
I’m not big into anthologies. I’ve got about 15 short stories just waiting for me to do something with them, but my publisher is interested in putting them out there as a single-author collection. Still haven’t decided what to do.

You really should check out Canva.com. There’s also Pic Monkey and I know people ravencl about it too. But I find Canva.com is easier to use.

That’s great that you want to submit to anthologies. That’s a nice way of getting a foot in the door.
For short stories, I submit to Glimmer Train. It is a difficult market to break into but I am going to crack that market one and enter in. Try looking at DuoTrope. They have an up to date of the entire literary market. And I also buy Writer’s Market every two years. It comes out every year, but if I don’t see any great changes in it, I buy on a two year cycle.

I usually just stumble across calls for anthologies. Not the best system!
