Paving My Author's Road

85K90 Month One Update

As you know, I’ve started the new year by taking part in a writing challenge. Usually I only do so in November for NaNoWriMo. And twice took part in July Camp NaNoWriMo. After the abysmal showing, mostly due to such bad luck. I started to think I’m cursed during that particular writing challenge that I’ll be giving it a wide berth for a while.

Anyways, for the first time ever, I’m a participant in the 85K90. A writing challenge where your goal is to write 85,000 words in 90 days. To meet goal, you’re giving a daily word count of 944 words a day. And for the 85K90 I’m writing the Foreseen series, a collection of four romances.

As January ends in two days this Wednesday, I’ll post the full results  for IWSG Day next week Wednesday.

For now, here’s my progress and word count goal from January 1 to January 28, 2018.

JANUARY 2018

Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
1   1,091 2   948 3   1,013 4   1,147 5   1,037 6   0
7   332 8   493 9   0 10   0 11   1,053 12   20 13    1,092
14   964 15   895 16   580 17   0 18   1,063 19   1,103 20   0
21   421 22   221 23   1,024 24   1,055 25   51 26   0 27   281
28  1,470 29 30 31

As you can see from the calendar I started off well. Out of the 28 days I’m reporting, there were only 6 days where I wrote 0 words. 10 days when I wrote less than the 944 daily word count goal. As for the remaining days I wrote above the 944 daily word count goal.

I failed to note whatever events that occurred to meeting or not meeting word count goals. On the days I wrote more I remember it was because I first wrote during the day. Then started writing where I left off after coming home and put the kids to bed. Also  because I wrote using my favorite garrett, listening to music. The weekends tend to be poor writing days as well.

So what must I do going forward for the writing month of February? Well for one, never be without my earbuds and plug myself in to my Pandora stations when I’m writing. Even though I know myself enough that I write better listening to music, I often don’t adhere to it.

Then was the trouble Google drive put me through during all NaNoWriMo last November. It happened again on the 16th and 27th of January. Had to resort other methods to update my Google docs but the error fixed itself within a few hours.

Here’s my total word count so far for Foreseen 3 “On the Mat”:

17,354 words.

Are you also taking part in the 85K90? Are you on goal with your 2018 writing and or personal resolutions?
