I’m saying this three days early but even so…
Happy Anniversary Roswell!
Roswell was originally released on then The WB (now CW) on October 6, 1999. Before the show moved to UPN for its third and final season. Created by Jonathan Dukes and developed by Jason Katims. And based on the young adult book series, Roswell High, written by Melinda Metz.
The show was centered around teens with the usual angst about love but with a twist. It also involved aliens.
Now, I’ve never read the books but I was a huge fan of the show. Been a fan since day one and own season one on DVD. And now with the DVD broken (it wasn’t me), thanks to Netflix I have seasons one to three at my disposal.
I simply loved Max and Liz as a couple. I watched the show for them alone. Another reason was for Michael and Maria. But what really pulled me in were the conspiracies, the whole aliens are among us and alien hunters. And how everyone fought so hard to stay together, protect each other. It did not matter a zilch that they were a different species. That what they are held no importance. It was who they are to each other that mattered.
Unfortunately the show was cancelled after season three. But it did catapult the acting career of Katherine Heigl. Who’s starred in several romantic comedies. (21 Dresses being my favorite). As well as was part of the main cast of Grey’s Anatomy from season one through six.
Although, not much was seen (by me) of Shiri Appleby for a few years, she did land the titular role of Cate Cassidy. Radio dj and mother of Luxx Cassidy on Life Unexpected. And now stars as a reality television producer on unReal. Shiri Appleby, before Roswell, also guest starred on an episode of 7th Heaven as a gang member.
Colin Hanks went on to star in the movie House Bunny. And yes, I admit to watching the movie not once or twice. But more than three times.
I have no idea what happened to Jason Behr (Max). But I remember he starred in one episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in season two. Before he starred in his debut role as lead character Max Evans. In BtVS, he’d made a deal with Spike to give him Buffy and in return Spike will turn him into a vampire.
Brendan Fehr (Michael) went on to star in the X-men First Class movie. (I knew that soldier looked familiar!) And surprisingly, played Rhomann Dey’s partner in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Writer and producer Jason Katims later created, wrote and produced Friday Night Lights. Author Melinda Metz often co-wrote with another author Laura J. Burns. And wrote a few of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Everwood book series. Another of her novels, Fingerprints, was also sold to ABC and made into a pilot. But was never picked up.
Did you watch Roswell? Were you a fan? Who was your favorite character? Favorite couple? Have a favorite episode?
Mine was when Max got drunk off one sip of alcohol. And went crazy with Kyle, also drunk, to sneak into Liz’s room and steal her away from her date. He used his powers out in the open to show how crazy he was about her. And ended the night by giving her a humuna, humuna hell of a kiss on stage. Unfortunately the hooch wore off and he came back to his it’s not safe for us to be together senses. Sigh.
PS Did you know that in the books Liz’s character was of Spanish descent. Her last name was Ortecho but was changed to Parker in the TV series. Oh, the liberties they take.

Yes, I was a fan of Roswell, although I didn’t watch it until several years after it went off the air.
It was cancelled too soon, I think. There was still a lot of the canon left to explore, although I was glad that we got to see as much of it as we did.

I know. I’m still sad they canceled it too soon. There was so much to explore now that Liz had powers too. And that there was a chance for Kyle to develop powers too. And what of the awful future that future Max went back in time to change? Did the alien invasion still happened, how, were alien scooby gang successful this time?

I loved Roswell. I had no idea we were near the Anniversary.
Are you doing NaNoWriMo this year? If so good luck!

Yeah, I was surprised too. Can’t believe it’s been 17 years.
Yup and thank you. I’m doing NaNo and will be doing a post Oct 24 detailing more about the story I’m working on.

You have to watch it. All three seasons are on Netflix, although I do have to say season 1 is my favorite. It’s where everything began. Hope you enjoy it.

When I first started running longer distances I discovered this on iTunes. I would steam it from my iPad while on a treadmill. I miss it. 8 watch the series. It was really good. I wasn’t a huge fan on the final season but that’s the case with most shows I watch and books I read. ❤️
You got me nostalgic and reminded me that I need to select my shows for fall/winter treadmill running!

Glad to help with the nostalgia. I wasn’t much of a fan for season 3 either. The Scooby alien gang were slipping and getting almost caught a little too much compared to the previous seasons. But the best part in season 3 was when Liz knocked Tess across the room with her new alien powers. And how Michael was no longer searching to go back to planet because earth and Maria was his home.

Aww. Well I admit I never got into Dawson’s Creek either into 1/3rd into season 1. It was the character Pacey that pulled me in.

Liz and Max were really the core of that story when you get down to it but the conspiracies drove the show.

Yeah. I watched the show for Max and Liz. I’m still sad the show ended with only three seasons. If they had more, they’ve could’ve expanded on those conspiracies. Like who else besides the ‘skins’ were their (Max, Isabel and Michael) enemies.
