30 Days of Poetry Love 2- Anthology- William Blake

Wow, so the day has come at last. It’s April 30th.

When I first started sharing my favorite poems I ran into a little problem about copyrights. And permissions to share the poems on my blogs. Luckily, I solved that by featuring recitations of the poems. Made possible thanks to SoundCloud and YouTube. And fortuitous as well, since I was able to find readings by the poets themselves.

Either way, April has come and gone too soon. I enjoyed sharing my favorite poems with you. As well as hearing your thoughts and feelings about the poems and the poets in the comments. I’m sure some stood out in particular for you (please share which and why if you’re up to it). Which made it all the more harder to choose a poem to share today. Because they’re all my favorites. All for different reasons. And as the final poem, I wanted to go out with a bang of a poem.

So tell me, what do you think of today’s poem by William Blake?

William Blake was born in London in 1757. He wrote the poem The Tyger as the counterpart, opposite of the poem The Lamb. I read both poems in college. And The Tyger was on my mind all day yesterday and mid April. So of course it became today’s final poem.

Where The Lamb portrays innocence and purity.  The Tyger questions on how something as frightening and evil as the tiger can exist. And alongside the goodness of the lamb in the same world. How is it possible to have the same creator (God)?  But after reviewing it again after all these years gave me another assessment of the poem. Evil begets evil because it’s the wolf that is fed.
