It’s day 22 of National Poetry Month which means there’s only eight days left until it’s over. It might be late to ask, but have you been enjoying my favorite poem anthology so far?

There was no usual favorite poem anthology post yesterday because it was Poem In Your Pocket Day. But the poem I chose to carry around in my pocket became my latest favorite. And so yesterday’s post turned out to be a two for one.

Today’s favorite poem is by a poet I learned of in my first 20th Century American Poetry class in college. The poet, Phillis Wheatley , born in 1753, was the first black poet to be published.

Here is her poem On Being Brought from Africa to America.
