Piper Morgan to the Rescue Cover Reveal

Today’s post is by children’s author and fellow IWSG member Stephanie Faris. And she’s here today to talk about the creation behind her Piper Morgan book series!

Creating Piper by Stephanie Faris

It all started with an email from my agent, asking if I’d ever considered writing chapter books. The answer was no, I never had. I headed straight for the library and stared blankly at the shelves. I had no idea what I was doing.

Luckily my agent had a suggested title: Junie B. Jones. I was home by then, so I figured out how to load books from the library onto my Kindle for free. All the Junie B. Jones books were out there. So were the Magic Tree House books, which were pure brilliance. Junie was great, but she didn’t get out much. Her adventures were mostly at school. As fun as that was, I wanted a character who could learn and explore the world, kind of like the characters did in the Magic Tree House series, only without the time travel element.

I immediately thought of a young girl who gets to explore different careers. Only obviously elementary school kids can’t work, so I had to make sure the mom was the one who tried out different jobs. As for the name Piper Morgan… I was watching Orange Is the New Black at the time and loved the name of the main character, Piper. Morgan came from my list of last names I keep—it was the perfect fit. Only later did I learn there’s a company called Piper Morgan in Texas. I’m pretty proud, though, that when I Google “Piper Morgan,” my Piper shows up in second place! Maybe people looking for information on the company will buy my book for their children.

Piper helps some four-legged friends find the perfect home in the third book of the brand-new Piper Morgan series.

Piper is super excited to help out at Bark Street, a local animal shelter in town. Who wouldn’t want to be surrounded by adorable puppies and dogs all day? And when Piper sees Taffy, the cutest dog she has ever seen, Piper is determined to find a way to bring Taffy home. But it won’t be easy—especially when she finds out someone else wants to make Taffy a part of their family, too!

Stephanie Faris knew she wanted to be an author from a very young age. In fact, her mother often told her to stop reading so much and go outside and play with the other kids. After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in broadcast journalism, she somehow found herself working in information technology. But she never stopped writing.

Stephanie is the Simon & Schuster author of 30 Days of No Gossip and 25 Roses, as well as the upcoming Piper Morgan series. When she isn’t crafting fiction, she writes for a variety of online websites on the topics of business, technology, and her favorite subject of all—fashion. She lives in Nashville with her husband, a sales executive.

  1. Love the cover and Piper’s name. Looks like the sort of book I would have grabbed off the shelf when I was at the age of chapter books. It’s always interesting to hear how stories (and series) come to be–and I’m glad the Magic Tree House series influenced your decision to have your character get out more. That series was one of my favorites when I was young!
