Last Thursday morning, I didn’t get to bed until a little after midnight and was 900 words short of my word count goal. I was more determined than ever to reach day 8 of NaNo’s word count of 13,333 words that very day. Too bad I was 500 words short and this time, I didn’t get to sleep until a bit after 1am.
3 days later and to my horror I’m stuck. As this is my first time participating in NaNo, I so very much want to complete the challenge of 50,000 words in thirty days! :-O
So, I’m going to change things up. I knew how I wanted my story to start and end. These two things I saw very clearly. I knew how I wanted the middle to go, but the middle part is not clearly defined as other two. Hence the reason I’m stuck. Now how to deal with that?
1) Went around the NaNo forums for advice.
2) Reread Elizabeth Sims “You’ve got a book in you”on her thoughts on ‘writer’s block’ and ‘dry writing’ and overcoming them. And other sites/advice as well.
3) Instead of goals, I will apply incentives. No longer will it be about how much writing I must do to keep up. No more! From now on I’ll focus on working towards/applying certain steps my character(s) want and need to do/take in order to reach their current destination [which coincides with mine too 😉 ], the next and the next.
And if I’m lucky, I’ll be able to survive the Terrible Week 2 of NaNo. I shall prevail!!!
